Warner Bros. Discovery is retracting one of its most controversial decisions of recent years. After the streaming service Max replaced HBO Max in 2023, the HBO brand – synonymous with quality and prestige – temporarily vanished from the VOD market. Now the company is taking a step back and restoring the well-known name. This is not only an image correction but also a signal that it is taking viewers' opinions into account and plans to seriously compete for their attention.

The decision was announced by Casey Bloys, president of content at HBO and Max. As he emphasised, "ChooseTV much better reflects our current offering for consumers." The return to the original name aims to re-emphasise that the platform offers not only quantity but, above all, quality – precisely what HBO has been associated with for years. In an age of content overload, a clear message about exclusivity and selection is a game changer for many viewers.
Global change coming in summer 2025, and the app will update itself.
The rebranding to HBO Max will begin in summer 2025 and will cover all countries where the service is available. Users do not need to take any action – the Max app will automatically transform into HBO Max during one of the summer updates. This is yet another change in the long history of this platform – do you still remember the days of HBO Go, HBO Now, or HBO Nordic?
