Samsung has been the largest television manufacturer in the world for years and regularly introduces solutions that others later copy. In their range, we can find both simple models for everyday viewing as well as advanced designs with Mini-LED or QD-OLED OLEDs. Additionally, there is the Tizen system, regarded as one of the most polished Smart TVs. So, let us take a look at Samsung's offerings, what distinguishes the various series, and what their strengths and weaknesses are.
For years, Samsung has been associated with televisions that can shine brightly and impress with their image clarity. This is one of the biggest advantages – models from this brand usually perform excellently in sunny living rooms, and in HDR content, they are capable of delivering truly spectacular scenes. Additionally, there are vibrant colours and an advanced Tizen system, which is among the fastest and most refined Smart TV platforms. However, not everything is the same as with the competition. Samsung, uniquely among the major manufacturers, does not support Dolby Vision, the most popular HDR standard. Instead, it is developing its own format: HDR10+. Both formats function similarly – adjusting image parameters scene by scene – but Dolby Vision still enjoys broader support in streaming services and on Blu-ray discs. HDR10+ is catching up (for example, on Amazon Prime Video and recently on Netflix), so it’s hard to talk about a serious shortfall, although in mid-range televisions, where the brightness of the panel is not the highest, Dolby Vision can be particularly useful.
The second pillar of Samsung's philosophy is the expansion of the SmartThings ecosystem. Here, the television becomes more than just a screen – it is the control centre of the home. You can connect a washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioning, or air purifier to it, but at the same time, there’s no need to limit yourself only to Samsung devices. Equipment from other brands is also supported, which shows that the manufacturer has a broader perspective and views the television as a part of a larger network of home devices.
Samsung offers several main series of televisions that may look similar on paper but differ significantly in practice. It is worth knowing what lies behind the names, as often it is the details that make a difference.
Crystal UHD – The simplest models from Samsung's catalogue. These are ordinary LCD televisions that are meant to be primarily affordable and provide access to SmartTV. They are sufficient for watching television, YouTube or Netflix, but do not expect fireworks in terms of the highest picture quality.
QLED – Still LCD, but with an additional layer of quantum dots (Quantum Dot). This solution allows for more vibrant colours and slightly better brightness. In cheaper models, the differences compared to Crystal UHD can be cosmetic, but in more expensive QLEDs, you can already notice distinctly stronger colours and even higher brightness.
Neo QLED – Here we have another step forward. This is also LCD with quantum dots but with new Mini-LED backlighting. Thanks to this, the television does not illuminate the entire screen evenly, but can dim and brighten selected parts of the image. The effect is better contrast, deeper blacks, and brighter highlights in HDR. There is still a halo effect around bright elements, but the difference compared to a regular QLED is significant.
OLED – Here, each pixel lights up independently and can be completely turned off. This provides true blacks and nearly infinite contrast. Samsung has its own QD-OLED panels, which, in addition to black, offer a wider colour gamut and greater brightness than classic OLEDs. In some models, the company also uses WOLED panels from LG. Both solutions are very good, although they differ in picture characteristics – which is why it’s worth checking out reviews of specific models.
Neo QLED 8K – The most "showy" televisions in the range. These are Mini-LEDs with 8K resolution. They look impressive, especially in large sizes and at high brightness, but in everyday use, 8K does not provide significant benefits – there is virtually no content available in this resolution.
Note at the end: This division is just a general outline. Within a single series, there can be five or six different models, and each may offer a different picture quality. Therefore, the name "Neo QLED" or "QLED" or even "OLED" does not fully indicate how a given television will perform in practice. It is best to familiarize yourself with a separate product review, which you can find on our website!
Samsung S95F is an excellent continuation and simultaneously an enhancement of last year's model S95D. Thanks to the QD-OLED panel, we receive an image that impresses from the first minutes of viewing. The black is deep and natural, with no signs of backlighting, and the brightness of the new generation panel reaches levels that just recently seemed beyond the reach of OLEDs. These values are so h...

In the case of the 83-inch version, Samsung took a different route than with the smaller sizes and opted for the Tandem WOLED panel produced by LG Display. This move initially raised questions, but in practice, it turned out to be a home run. Here we have an exceptionally successful mix: absolutely reference black levels, outstanding brightness that allows enjoyment of HDR content even during the ...

Samsung S95D is definitely our favourite among the televisions from this brand for 2024. We were impressed by its innovative matte panel, which sets it apart from the competition. Its brightness is astonishing. This is one of the highest values in the OLED segment. As a result, it performs excellently in both dimly lit rooms and full sunlight. Motion fluidity in this model is outstanding. When wat...

The Samsung S90F in the 65-inch version is a television that demonstrates the significant leap in quality that can be achieved with the use of a QD-OLED panel in a mid-range model. Compared to other variants, the S90F stands out as the best – it offers not only perfect blacks and infinite contrast like other options with a WOLED panel, but also noticeably higher brightness and a wider colour palet...

The Samsung S90F is an excellent representative of the premium mid-range in the world of OLED televisions. Here we have an organic matrix that guarantees perfect contrast – and no matter how hard LCD manufacturers try with local dimming in Mini LEDs, this black simply cannot be replicated. The S90F showcases its class without any compromises. Compared to last year's model, we get a slightly bright...

The SAMSUNG S90D, also known as the S94D, is a device that has repeatedly pleasantly surprised us during our tests. It is worth mentioning that depending on the chosen size, the differences may concern the OLED panel used. However, regardless of which variant we encounter, one can count on excellent black levels and HDR effects, which, thanks to high brightness, make a huge impression. This is one...

Samsung S85F with a QD-OLED panel can surprise – and it surprises very positively. Even before the tests, we didn't think that in the case of TVs that are talked about in the context of "panel lottery," one could come across something that would benefit the user. However, in this case, particularly in the 55-inch version, it has fully succeeded. The QD-OLED panel, as befits organic technology, off...

Samsung OLED 48 S90D or S94D is the smallest model in this series, and we had the opportunity to see what it can do. At first glance, it's evident that it deals excellently with details in dark scenes, as is expected from an OLED. However, it is worth mentioning that the 48-inch version differs from the larger models. Brightness is slightly lower, and the panel has a satin finish instead of glossy...

The Samsung QN90F is a television that demonstrates, in many respects, how mature the development of miniLED technology can be. It offers excellent contrast and blacks, very high HDR brightness, which works well for both films and games, along with a matte screen that makes a huge difference in everyday use. This is what makes the QN90F one of the best televisions for viewing in sunny living rooms...
