The grand final of the annual UK TV Shootout 2025, organised by Vincent Teoh from the HDTVTest channel, brought excitement we haven't seen in the world of televisions for a long time. After a series of demanding tests and analyses conducted by six picture experts and one enthusiast, we discovered the best televisions of the year. The results are unmistakable — Sony BRAVIA 8 II won the title of best television of 2025, beating out Samsung S95F, LG G5, and Panasonic Z95B.
As the team at ChooseTV, we had the pleasure of being present at the event – our representative, Maciej Koper, was a judge.
How did the test go?
Similar to previous editions, all the televisions were masked and labelled with letters so that the judges wouldn't know which model they were viewing. Each one was calibrated by the manufacturer’s engineers and compared to a reference monitor Sony BVM-HX3110 worth £30,000.
The test included eight categories that allowed for the evaluation of televisions in the most demanding conditions:
black management and shadow detail,
colour reproduction HDR10 and BT.2020,
tone mapping in HDR 1000 and 4000 nits,
tonal gradation and 10-bit processing,
motion smoothness (24p and 50 Hz),
screen uniformity (dark and bright),
low-quality signal processing (upscaling, compression),
performance in bright rooms.
All this based on 4K HDR Blu-rays from films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, 1917, La La Land, No Time To Die, and The Lion King.

Behind the Scenes and the New Test Format
This year, Vincent Teoh introduced significant changes to the presentation method — the TVs were positioned vertically on either side of the reference monitor, making it easier to compare details in a smaller field of view.
Each manufacturer calibrated their device themselves to ensure the results better reflected the brand's image philosophy.
Commentary and significance of victory
The victory of Sony BRAVIA 8 II confirms that accuracy and subtlety of image still have an advantage over sheer brightness. After a previous defeat, when the title of "king of the year" was taken by LG G4, dethroning Sony A95L, the Japanese manufacturer regains the throne – BRAVIA 8 II once again confirms Sony's dominance in the world of reference image quality. It’s also worth highlighting the outstanding performance of Samsung S95F, which won the title of Best Living Room TV 2025 — demonstrating that QD-OLED with a matte panel remains a perfect choice for everyday viewing in bright rooms.
Our Presence
We are pleased that as the ChooseTV editorial team we could participate in this year's UK TV Shootout 2025 and we are proud to announce that Maciej Koper served on the jury of this prestigious event.
This event has once again proven that the competition among television manufacturers has never been so close. Although the title of best TV of the year went to Sony, each of the four models — LG G5, Panasonic Z95B, Samsung S95F, and Sony BRAVIA 8 II — represents the absolute peak of contemporary image technology.
