The Japanese brand REGZA has launched two new flagship TVs, X990S and Z990S. The first uses LG Display's latest RGB Tandem OLED panel, while the second relies on advanced Mini LED backlighting with quantum dots. The manufacturer promises a significant improvement in picture brightness compared to the previous generation.

RGB Tandem OLED with improved cooling

REGZA X990S features an RGB Tandem OLED panel with four emissive layers: one red, two blue and one green. The manufacturer has also implemented a new heat-dissipation system with two aluminium layers.

As a result, the TV is said to deliver around 30% higher brightness than the previous X9900R. An improved anti-reflective coating is claimed to further reduce light reflections by up to half. It also includes a 5.1.2 audio system with Dolby Atmos, offering up to 180 W of power.

Mini LED also sees big changes

The second model, the REGZA Z990S, uses a 4K LCD panel with dense Mini LED backlighting and a layer of quantum dots. The new backlight control system is said to deliver up to 40% higher brightness when displaying a completely white image. A new feature is Backlight Scan, which briefly dims individual backlight zones to reduce motion blur. Both TVs use the REGZA Engine ZRα processor and offer four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K at 144 Hz. The X990S series is available in 55- and 65-inch sizes, while the Z990S comes in 65-, 75- and 85-inch variants.

Prices for the new REGZA TVs in Japan start at 550,000 yen, roughly 13,800 zł. The most expensive variant, the 85-inch Z990S Mini LED, costs about 22,100 zł. Availability of the new models in Poland has not yet been confirmed.

The new models went on sale in Japan on 16 October. Availability in Poland has not yet been confirmed.
