Apple has released the tvOS 27.2 update, which brings several new features to the Apple TV 4K. Users can now enjoy random screensavers, an easier way to locate the remote and additional accessibility options. The new software also adds support for wireless surround sound using four HomePods.

New screensavers and locating the remote

One of the biggest changes is the ability to automatically switch between different categories of screensavers. Apple TV can now randomly display landscapes, photos and Snoopy animations. Users can also choose specific photos from their iPhone without sharing their entire library.

The update also adds support for American and British Sign Language (ASL and BSL) on selected content in the Apple TV app, along with new accessibility options in FaceTime. Owners of second-generation and later Siri Remote models can locate the remote using the Find My app on their iPhone.

Four HomePods as a home theatre

The most interesting new feature for home theatre fans is support for a wireless surround system made up of four HomePods. The speakers can be used as two front and two rear channels, delivering immersive sound, including Dolby Atmos.

However, the feature will be available exclusively on the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, which goes on sale on 13 November. Paired second-generation HomePods or second-generation HomePod minis are also required.

tvOS 27.2 is already available to download on second-generation and later Apple TV 4K models. Older devices are getting a separate tvOS 26.6.1 update.
