The successor to the Xiaomi TV BOX S2 is coming!

Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Generation

Xiaomi has quietly launched the third generation of its popular TV Box S player. The device still runs on the Google TV system, but this time it has received some much-needed improvements that could make it an interesting alternative to offerings from Google and other manufacturers.

More storage, but RAM unchanged

The biggest change is the tripling of built-in storage – from 8 GB to a whopping 32 GB. This is a significant step forward, especially considering the growing number of apps and games available in the Google Play store. It's worth noting that new Google guidelines require devices with Google TV to have at least 16 GB of storage – Xiaomi exceeds this requirement.

Unfortunately, the RAM remains unchanged and still is just 2 GB?! When talking about devices in 2025, it's hard not to be concerned about this. In comparison, the Google TV streamer offers 4 GB of RAM. We just hope that Xiaomi will release more versions of this device with larger amounts of system memory.

New processor and Wi-Fi 6 support

Xiaomi has not officially revealed which exact chip powers the new version of the device, but it is known that it offers a 25% faster CPU and an impressive 130% better GPU performance compared to its predecessor. (According to leaks from flatpanelsHD, it is a chip called Amlogic S905X5M). In practice, this should translate to faster app launches, smoother interface operation, and better image quality in games or during streaming. However, we still emphasise that 2GB of RAM could be a bottleneck for the device. The new model also features Wi-Fi 6 support – good news for users with faster internet and modern routers. Unfortunately, the classic 3.5 mm audio jack has been omitted, which may be a disappointment for those using wired speakers.

Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and 4K – no compromises

The new version still supports Dolby Vision and the increasingly popular HDR10+. We also have Dolby Atmos spatial audio and DTS:X. The maximum resolution via HDMI is 4K at 60 fps – exactly what top devices like Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield TV offer.

Thanks to the larger memory and stronger processor, the ChooseTV Box S 3rd generation can become a real alternative to other devices with Google TV. We only hope that the presence of just 2GB of system memory will not hinder the device in any way. We're still waiting for the price and release date – but if Xiaomi maintains a competitive price, it could shake things up in the market. There's a reason the previous model was among the most popular streaming devices on the market.
