During the WWDC 2026 conference, Apple dedicated little time to the Apple TV platform, but that doesn't mean there are no new updates. The company officially announced tvOS 27, which is the next major update for its media set-top boxes. This time, the main goal is to improve the speed and fluidity of the entire device's operation. The update also brings several new features for Apple Music, HomeKit, and system apps. However, everything indicates that the most exciting updates may only arrive with the launch of the new Apple TV 4K.
Apple focuses on the speed of the entire system
After major visual changes introduced a year ago, Apple has decided to focus on performance. According to the company, apps in tvOS 27 are expected to launch up to 30 percent faster than before. Improvements also include the Control Centre, which is designed to respond more swiftly to user commands. People using AirPlay and HomePod smart speakers will also feel the acceleration. The process of connecting devices is set to be quicker and more reliable. Apple has also enhanced the performance of Apple Music, reducing the time it takes to start playing music. For audiophiles, support for the Hi-Res Lossless format has been introduced, offering quality up to 24-bit and 192 kHz. The update also brings smart content downloading and a reduction in app size due to more efficient management of language packs. The company has also improved game controller settings, which are set to offer greater configuration flexibility. The support for the Thread standard used in smart homes has also been boosted. All these changes aim to make the use of ChooseTV more comfortable every day. While some of the new features may not be spectacular, their impact on the daily operation of the device can be quite noticeable.
Music, podcasts and accessibility are gaining new possibilities
tvOS 27 also brings a number of changes to multimedia applications. One of these is a completely refreshed Podcast app. The new interface is designed to make it easier to browse both audio podcasts and video content. The app also features additional sections related to Apple services. Users with smart home systems will have the ability to manage 4K recordings from cameras connected to Apple Home. An important innovation is also the enhancements in accessibility. The system will allow users to adjust text size not only in tvOS itself but also in compatible applications. Apple is also introducing automatic dialogue transcription for subtitles and a feature to translate subtitles into other languages. Support for hearing aids compatible with the Made for iPhone standard has also been expanded. This will make their operation similar to that of AirPods, offering easier switching between devices. Many of these features may prove particularly useful for individuals using Apple TV as their primary home entertainment hub. At the same time, some market observers believe that Apple has deliberately held back the most significant new features for a later presentation of the new Apple TV 4K model. There is speculation that the device may receive support for Apple Intelligence and more advanced features based on artificial intelligence.
tvOS 27 doesn't bring any revolutions, but focuses on what users most often expect: speed and convenience. Apple has improved app performance, expanded multimedia features, and added more accessibility tools.
