Microsoft is abandoning development of the Copilot assistant on Smart TVs. The feature, which appeared on LG and Samsung devices in 2025, will be switched off on December 1, 2026. It's a rather surprising turn, given how heavily manufacturers are currently promoting artificial intelligence in TVs.
Copilot disappears from LG and Samsung TVs
Copilot was meant to let users have conversations with an AI, ask questions, and get recommendations for movies and TV shows. Microsoft announced the integration with TVs at CES 2025, but the feature did not gain much traction.
As FlatpanelsHD reports, the assistant's functionality on TVs was fairly limited. Adding a Copilot shortcut to LG TVs without a way to remove it also caused controversy. The manufacturer ultimately allowed users to remove the icon.
Now Microsoft has officially confirmed the end of support. From December 1, Copilot will no longer be available on LG and Samsung TVs, though it will still work on PCs, smartphones, and web browsers.
The decision does not, however, mean the end of AI on TVs. LG is still developing its own solutions and integration with Google Gemini, while Samsung offers Bixby and Perplexity, among others.
Microsoft did not disclose an official reason for removing the feature.
