Chinese manufacturer HKC showcased a 100-inch TV at the Canton trade fair that uses RGB Mini LED technology. The set boasts 6K resolution, more than 3,000 local dimming zones, and a claimed full coverage of the BT.2020 color space. It’s another example of the growing capabilities of large LCD screens.
6K and more than 3,000 dimming zones
The new HKC TV offers a resolution of 5760 × 3240 pixels, about 18.7 million pixels. That's 2.25 times more than standard 4K, which on a 100-inch screen can translate to higher image detail.
The manufacturer uses RGB Mini LED backlighting with 3024 independently controlled zones. Unlike classic Mini LED, which uses white or blue LEDs, RGB technology uses separate red, green, and blue light sources.
HKC also claims a peak brightness of 1500 nits, full BT.2020 coverage, and an AG anti-glare coating that reduces reflections.
When will the TV go on sale?
At the trade show, HKC also showed an even larger 116-inch RGB Mini LED TV with 30,600 local dimming zones and a housing only 28 mm thick.
So far the manufacturer hasn't revealed the price, refresh rate, or launch date for the 100-inch model. It's also unclear whether the device will be released on the European market.
