YouTube is introducing a feature that many have been waiting for a long time: the practical ability to remove Shorts from the main screen. The new option expands on the previous time limits system and gives users much greater control over how many short videos they actually watch. Shorts may completely disappear from the main page
The most important new feature is the ability to set a limit on Shorts to 0 minutes per day. In practice, this means that short videos will stop appearing on the main page of the app. They do not disappear completely from YouTube, but they are no longer aggressively pushed to users every time they log in. If you still try to watch them, the platform will display a message indicating that the limit has been reached. This is a simple but effective way to reduce mindless scrolling, which for many users has been the biggest issue.
Greater control and fewer distractions
The new feature fits into the growing trend of giving users more control over the time spent in applications. Similar solutions are already offered by other platforms, but YouTube takes it a step further as it allows users to practically 'cut out' Shorts without the need to delete the entire app. The option is already available for parental accounts, where it operates even more restrictively; children cannot simply skip the message and scroll further. For standard accounts, the feature is being gradually rolled out and may appear for all users in the near future.
