webOS 25 is coming to older LG televisions. The update has already begun!

Calendar 10/3/2025

LG rolls out webOS 25 to older TVs. The update for 2024, 2023, and select 2022 OLED/QNED models has already started globally.

LG has started the process of rolling out webOS 25 for older television models – it includes all models from 2024 and 2023, as well as selected models from 2022 (including OLED and 8K QNED). This is a continuation of the "Re:New" programme, under which the company is updating the system on older devices contrary to its previous policy – a similar approach is already being adopted by Samsung in Tizen OS.

Which models will receive webOS 25?

The update appears around 6–7 months after the launch of the 2025 models, which already came with webOS 25 out of the box.

In first place are the OLED televisions (including the B series), as well as selected QNED models.

Look for software version 33.21.85 or newer 33.22.15 (the latter includes additional bug fixes). The update is being rolled out in waves globally, so it may take some time before you see it in your television's menu. Alternatively, you can manually download the firmware from the LG support site and install it via USB.

New features in webOS 25

Although it is not a huge revolution, the new version brings a lot of practical changes:

  • the ability to hide pre-installed applications on the home screen,

  • improved input shortcut – switches only after clicking, not on hover,

  • support for 1440p 120 Hz (especially useful for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2),

  • new AI Sound Mode,

  • AI Art features in selected regions,

  • more screensaver options + the ability to add your own photos,

  • redesigned smart home device control hub.

Let us remind you that webOS 24 previously added support for Google Cast (Chromecast).

Attention – memory issues

Some users report memory issues that may cause media players to freeze – both the built-in one and external applications (e.g. Plex).

If you regularly use such applications, it is advisable to hold off on updating until fixes are released or to use external devices such as Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield.
