Walmart has officially unveiled the new Onn 4K Pro media player, which is intended to be a cheaper alternative to the Google TV Streamer. The device runs on the Google TV system and offers support for 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and an Ethernet port, all at a noticeably lower cost than Google hardware. Everything suggests that Walmart aims to strengthen its presence in the streaming market and compete with devices like Apple TV, Fire TV, and Nvidia Shield.
Onn 4K Pro offers Google TV and premium features at a lower price
The new Onn 4K Pro is priced at $60 and visually closely resembles a Google device. The hardware runs on Google TV, which means access to the same streaming applications, integration with Google services, and AI features based on Gemini. Walmart has also added some premium elements, such as a backlit remote, Wi-Fi 6, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. However, in terms of specifications, the device is slightly weaker than the Google TV Streamer. The Onn 4K Pro uses an Amlogic S905X5M processor and has 3 GB of RAM, while the Google device offers 4 GB of memory. Both devices, however, come with 32 GB of internal storage. Nevertheless, Onn may prove attractive to those looking for a more budget-friendly device with modern image and sound features.

In addition to the Pro model, the company also showcased a cheaper Onn 4K stick. The device supports 4K resolution as well as HDR10 and HDR10+, although there are conflicting reports regarding Dolby Atmos support. The device is expected to cost around 40 dollars and be one of the most affordable options with Google TV on the market. The new Onn devices are intended to partially fill the gap left by the discontinued Chromecasts and simultaneously compete with the most popular streamers available. Walmart is heavily focusing on integration with its own ecosystem and collecting data regarding users' viewing habits and purchases. For some individuals, this may be a disadvantage, but the low price and extensive support for formats may lead to the new devices quickly finding their audience.
