The Spider-Man film universe without Spider-Man has not had an easy path. After poorly received productions like Morbius and Kraven, Sony decided to end its live-action experiment. The Venom trilogy with Tom Hardy in the lead role received mixed reviews, but performed surprisingly well at the box office. Now the studio wants to try again, but in a completely different form. Instead of Venom 4, a feature-length animation will be created, which aims to open a new chapter for the character.
Not a sequel, but a new beginning
The new project will not be a direct continuation of the live-action trilogy. Sony plans to create an entirely separate story in animated form. Tom Hardy is expected to be involved as a producer, and his acting role has not yet been confirmed. However, it is possible that he will again lend his voice to Eddie Brock or the symbiote itself. The direction will be handled by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, creators of the film Final Destination: Blood Ties. Signs suggest that the production may receive a certificate rating of R, which would give the creators more freedom to showcase the darker side of Venom.
Sony wants to repeat the success of animation
The decision to move into animation is not coincidental. Productions such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have proven that this format can bring both artistic and financial success. Sony has clearly noticed that it is the animated films from the Spider-Man universe that have gained the greatest recognition from audiences and critics. The script for the new Venom is not yet ready, but the direction seems clear. The studio wants to avoid the mistakes of previous installments and propose a fresher, more refined approach to the character.
Venom is one of the most recognisable characters in the Marvel universe, and many fans believe that his full potential has yet to be realised on the big screen. The animated format offers an opportunity for greater visual creativity and a stronger atmosphere. If Sony learns from the past, the new production could prove to be groundbreaking. This will not be Venom 4, but rather a completely new approach to the symbiote that may finally satisfy the fans.
