The new season of Overwatch 2 is going to the next level and adds a map hero along with a ton of new features.

Calendar 4/14/2026

Blizzard Entertainment is not slowing down and is launching another major chapter for Overwatch 2. Season 2: Summit is one of the most content-packed updates in a long time – a new hero, revamped maps, fresh modes, and plenty of changes to the gameplay systems. This is not just an ordinary season with "cosmetics," but a significant expansion of both gameplay and story. If anyone has been waiting for a more substantial refresh, now is the time to return to the game.

New heroine and more story than usual

The biggest star of the season is of course Sierra, a new DPS character who brings not only fresh mechanics to the game but also a significant piece of the Overwatch world’s lore. As a former head of security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa and someone connected to the Soldier Enhancement programme, her storyline directly intersects with characters like Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. This means that Blizzard is focusing more on lore development than usual, rather than just gameplay. Sierra wields a rifle and is supported by a drone named Dorothy, suggesting a more tactical fighting style. Her debut is accompanied by a special event Operation: Grand Mesa, which allows players to unlock narrative elements by completing challenges. It’s an interesting move; instead of just watching the story, players actively discover it during gameplay.

Map reworks and a host of changes in the systems

Aside from a new heroine, Blizzard is also introducing a solid package of changes to the game itself. The map Antarctic Peninsula has been revamped to improve the flow of encounters and add more flanking options. Additionally, Post Match Accolades are returning, which is a system rewarding players for their contributions to the match—something intended to enhance the sense of satisfaction and teamwork. There are also cosmetic highlights, as Mythic skins for Soldier: 76 and Genji introduce new levels of personalisation and visual effects. Furthermore, changes to hero perks (e.g., faster sprint for Soldier or additional healing for Mercy), a new map in the Stadium mode, and seasonal events such as the Sakura Collection and the return of collaboration with the team LE SSERAFIM have been added.

The Summit Season shows that Overwatch 2 is still evolving and focusing not only on new characters but also on real changes in gameplay and storyline. This is one of the strongest updates in a long time.
