The new God of War may be revealed at any moment, and everything points to a huge change in the series.

Calendar 4/13/2026

The last few days have brought a true avalanche of gaming information, but one piece stands out particularly strongly: everything indicates that the new God of War may be officially presented as early as April. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson, the announcement was planned to be made “very soon”, which fits perfectly with the rumours about the upcoming PlayStation State of Play event. If these reports are confirmed, we may be one step away from learning about one of the most important games of the coming years, and in a completely new edition.

A new narrative direction and an unexpected heroine

The biggest surprise may not be the announcement itself, but the direction in which the series is heading. According to earlier leaks from insider NateTheHate, the new installment of God of War is set to focus not on Kratos or Atreus, but on Faye, Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother. This is a character that has thus far remained in the shadow of events, but her story has been repeatedly suggested as key to the entire universe. The project is said to be led by Cory Barlog, one of the most important figures responsible for the success of the modern series. If the information is confirmed, we could receive a more personal story, centred on events that took place before the parts we are familiar with. The premiere is reportedly aiming for around 2027, which means that the project is still at a relatively early stage, but its announcement may come sooner than we expected.

Gameplay closer to Devil May Cry than RPG

The changes are set to affect not only the story but also the gameplay itself. According to insider Shpeshal Nick, the new God of War may depart from the more RPG-style known from the recent installments and shift towards dynamic, spectacle-driven action, closer to the Devil May Cry series. This would mean a faster pace of combat, a greater emphasis on flashy combos, and a more skill-based fighting system. This represents a potentially huge change for a franchise that has been associated in recent years with a heavier, more tactical approach to combat and a rich narrative. If Sony does decide to make such a move, it could be an attempt to refresh the formula and attract a new group of players, while simultaneously risking backlash from fans attached to the current style.

If the leaks are confirmed, the new God of War may be the biggest change in the history of the series — both in terms of the hero and gameplay. Now it all depends on whether the announcement will actually come this month.
