Slack is transforming into a work AI assistant. Salesforce is adding over 30 new features.

Salesforce is significantly overhauling Slack and wants to transform it into something more than just a messaging app. The new version of Slack focuses on AI as the primary working tool, and Slackbot is intended to function as a digital collaborator rather than merely a chatbot. The company is adding over 30 new features designed to automate daily tasks and streamline access to data without switching between applications. This is another step towards a world where AI becomes an integral part of office work. Salesforce clearly demonstrates that it wants Slack to be the centre of the entire ecosystem.

AI as a Collaborator, Not a Tool

Salesforce is developing Slackbot to function as a personal AI agent that understands the user's work context. The system uses data from messages, files, channels, but also from CRM tools and external integrations. This allows it not only to answer questions but also to actively assist in work, for example, summarising conversations, creating content, or suggesting actions. The use of AI during video conferences is particularly interesting, where Slackbot can extract information in real-time and, for instance, automatically display customer data.

One interface for everything

The new approach assumes that Slack will become the central place for managing AI and applications, eliminating the need to use multiple tools simultaneously. Salesforce explicitly mentions the end of scattered solutions and the transition to a single environment where everything operates based on conversations. Additionally, a "skills" system is being introduced, allowing AI capabilities to be shared with other employees without requiring technical knowledge. Initially, the new features will be available to Business+ and Enterprise+ users, but they will gradually be accessible in lower tiers as well.
