MOREFINE has shown a new eGPU that could significantly disrupt the mobile gaming segment. The G2 model is a compact graphics station that houses a desktop GeForce RTX 5060 Ti card and allows it to be connected to a laptop or handheld device. The whole unit is surprisingly small for such equipment, yet it offers a considerable performance boost.
Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink make a difference
The biggest change is support for Thunderbolt 5, which significantly increases bandwidth compared to older standards. As a result, eGPUs are no longer as heavily restricted as before and can better utilise the potential of the graphics card. Alternatively, there is also the OCuLink port, which offers a similar level of performance and even greater connection stability.
Of course, it still doesn't deliver the full power that a card would achieve in a conventional PC with full PCIe, but the difference compared to older eGPUs is noticeable. For laptop users, this means a real increase in FPS in games and better performance when working with graphics or AI.
The power of desktop in a mobile form
Inside, we find a full-fledged RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, making this setup truly powerful for an external device. The whole thing is enclosed in a compact case with active cooling and several operating modes, allowing for a balance between quietness and performance.
This solution is particularly interesting for those using laptops or portable devices that do not offer much graphical power on a daily basis. Once the eGPU is connected, they can be transformed into a fully-fledged gaming or work machine.
MOREFINE G2 shows how rapidly the eGPU market is developing. With Thunderbolt 5 and increasingly powerful graphics cards, the line between laptops and desktops is starting to blur. If such solutions become more popular, mobile gaming could reach a whole new level.
