PS5 and PS5 Pro are rising significantly in price. Sony is raising prices by as much as 100 dollars.

Calendar 3/31/2026

Sony is once again raising the prices of the PlayStation 5, and this time the scale of the changes is truly significant. The increases will affect all versions of the console, including the Pro model and PlayStation Portal. Importantly, the new prices will come into effect very soon, so this is the last moment to purchase at the old price. This is another instance in this generation where the hardware, instead of becoming cheaper, is getting more expensive. The reasons are well known, but for gamers, it still means one thing: be prepared for a larger expense.

PS5 increases in price again

Sony has officially confirmed price hikes for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The new prices will come into effect on 2 April 2026. The biggest changes are an increase of about 100 dollars or euros for standard models and even 150 dollars more for the Pro version. This means that the prices of consoles are now noticeably higher than on launch day.

Since the launch in 2020, prices have already risen several times, but now they are reaching their highest level. The Digital model, which once cost 400, is approaching around 600, while the disc version is reaching about 650. The change is even more pronounced for the PS5 Pro, which is nearing 900. In practice, this means that depending on the model, prices have increased by as much as several dozen percent compared to the launch.

Why prices are rising

Sony explains its decision by economic pressure and rising production costs. Issues with the availability of components, inflation, and the situation in the global market make it difficult to maintain previous prices. This is somewhat surprising, as previous crises, such as the pandemic, did not lead to such significant increases. However, the industry now looks completely different, and production costs are much higher.

If someone was planning to purchase a PS5, it is actually the last moment to do so at the old price. After 2 April, the new rates will apply globally. Especially with major titles like Grand Theft Auto VI coming up, which may further increase interest in the console.

So far, it has been standard for consoles to become cheaper over time. Now the situation is reversing, and hardware is becoming more expensive even several years after release. This shows how much the market has changed and how significant global factors are influencing the gaming industry. For players, this means one thing: affordable gaming on the new generation is becoming increasingly unrealistic.
