Nintendo may be preparing more new devices. Speculations have emerged online regarding the possible debut of the Nintendo Switch 2 in an OLED version or a cheaper Lite model. The reason for this is the company's latest financial data showing a very large increase in spending on research and development.
Nintendo increases spending on hardware development
According to new reports, Nintendo's spending on research and development has increased year on year by as much as 23.7 percent. The company raised its budget from about 14.3 billion yen to 17.7 billion yen, which immediately sparked speculation among gamers and analysts. Theories began to emerge on Reddit and Japanese forums that Nintendo may be working on new variants of the Switch 2. The most commonly mentioned model is the OLED with a better screen and a cheaper Lite version. However, for now, these are solely unofficial reports and Nintendo has not confirmed any new hardware.
New leads have emerged online
Additionally, users have pointed out the mysterious code "OSM," which allegedly appeared on the Nintendo Account portal and, according to some, may refer to an undisclosed device. However, there is no concrete evidence confirming the existence of new models. According to speculation, any potential new consoles might only appear after the planned price changes for the Switch 2 in Japan. Some fans have even attempted to estimate potential prices for the new models based on the current differences between the standard Switch, OLED, and Lite. Such calculations suggest around 65,980 yen for the OLED model and about 40,980 yen for the Lite version, but these are merely loose predictions.
Nintendo's increasing spending on technology development has once again sparked rumours about new versions of the Switch 2. For now, the company has not made any official announcements, but players are increasingly expecting the debut of the OLED or Lite model in the future.
