This is not just another document about space. NASA and Netflix have just announced a collaboration that brings live broadcasts from space straight to the world's largest streaming platform. Rocket launches, research missions, and even a glimpse into life on the International Space Station – you can now watch all of this as easily as a crime series.
– “The Space Act of 1958 obliges us to share our story with as wide an audience as possible” – says Rebecca Sirmons from NASA+. – “We are entering the Golden Age of Exploration – from your sofa or from your phone.”
Live broadcasts from NASA+
Until now, NASA has conducted broadcasts through its NASA+ application (among others on Apple TV and Fire TV), but now it is taking a step further – globally. In practice, this means that over 700 million Netflix users from around the world will be able to watch space in real time.
No more is needed – NASA content will be available in the Netflix interface just like any other film or series. The broadcasts will be streamed in HD quality, so you can comfortably watch it on a large screen – or simply catch a glimpse of the ISS from your phone while on the tram.
A new era of space broadcasts? Definitely. And this time, no telescope is required – just Netflix.
