Microsoft is abandoning development of the Copilot assistant on Smart TVs. The feature, which appeared on LG and Samsung devices in 2025, will be switched off as early as 1 December 2026. It's a rather surprising U-turn, given how strongly manufacturers are currently promoting artificial intelligence in TVs.
Copilot disappears from LG and Samsung TVs
Copilot was supposed to allow users to have conversations with AI, ask questions and receive recommendations for films and TV series. Microsoft announced the integration with TVs at CES 2025, but the solution did not win much favour.
As FlatpanelsHD reports, the assistant's functionality on TVs was quite limited. It was also controversial that a Copilot shortcut was added to LG TVs without the option to remove it. The manufacturer eventually allowed users to remove the icon.
Now Microsoft has officially confirmed the end of support. From 1 December Copilot will no longer be available on LG and Samsung TVs, although it will continue to work on computers, smartphones and in web browsers.
The decision does not, however, mean the end of AI on TVs. LG is still developing its own solutions and integration with Google Gemini, while Samsung offers, among others, Bixby and Perplexity.
Microsoft did not disclose an official reason for withdrawing the feature.
