Chinese manufacturer HKC unveiled a 100-inch television using RGB Mini LED technology at the Canton Fair. The device features 6K resolution, over 3,000 local dimming zones and a claimed full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space. It's another example of the growing capabilities of large LCD screens.
6K and more than 3,000 dimming zones
The new HKC TV offers a resolution of 5760 × 3240 pixels, which is around 18.7 million pixels. This is 2.25 times more than standard 4K, which on a 100-inch screen can result in greater image detail.
The manufacturer has used RGB Mini LED backlighting with 3024 independently controlled dimming zones. Unlike conventional Mini LED, which uses white or blue LEDs, RGB technology uses separate red, green and blue light sources.
HKC also claims a peak brightness of 1500 nits, full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space and an AG anti-reflective coating that reduces reflections.
When will the TV go on sale?
At the trade show, HKC also unveiled an even larger 116-inch RGB Mini LED TV with 30,600 local dimming zones and a chassis just 28 mm thick.
For now, the manufacturer has not revealed the price, refresh rate or the launch date for the 100-inch model. It is also unclear whether the device will be released in Europe.
