LG Display will repair Micro LED screens. A breakthrough in the production of the best display technology?

Calendar 3/19/2026

Micro LED screens are the "holy grail" of consumer electronics. They are expected to be brighter than anything we know in the future, not suffer from burn-in issues, and consume trace amounts of energy. However, there is one problem: their production is a logistical nightmare. However, a light has appeared at the end of the tunnel. LG Display has just started working on solving the biggest pain point of this technology. Will luxury displays finally make their way into homes?

A Million Microscopic Blocks

Why is Micro LED so expensive? Imagine that the screen of a smartphone or television has to be assembled from millions of diodes the size of a speck of dust, or even smaller! It only takes a few of them to malfunction, and the entire panel is then rendered useless. Even if the factory achieves 99.99% effectiveness, thousands of "dead" pixels remain on a single screen.

According to information from the portal The Elec, LG Display is involved in a major government project in South Korea aimed at creating machines for the rapid detection and repair of such faults. Instead of discarding a faulty panel, special scanners will locate the non-functioning diode, and robots will replace it with a new one in a fraction of a second.

Cheaper MICRO-LED screens on the horizon?

For the average user, this is important news as efficient repair at the production level is the key to much lower prices. Currently, the production of Micro LED is so risky that the prices of such televisions are counted in hundreds of thousands of zlotys, as we experienced at this year's CES2026 exhibition.

LG Display, along with research institutes, aims to create a complete ecosystem by 2032 that will enable the mass production of these panels. If they manage to automate the "treatment" of such screens, production costs will drop drastically. Is this the first real signal heralding a great revolution? For that, we will have to wait a few more years.
