Apple has relied on safe colours in its Pro models for years. Silver, black, gold, and muted shades have dominated the offering. The situation changed with the iPhone 18 Pro in Cosmic Orange, which turned out to be a sales success. Now the company may take a step further. According to industry reports, a deep, saturated shade of red is being tested that would become the hallmark of this year's generation.
Bolder colour strategy
The new red is expected to be one of several variants considered by Apple. The company has been experimenting with different colour palettes for years well before a launch, which means that the final decision may not be made until closer to the debut. Sources suggest that the colour could be added alongside the existing options, rather than replacing the previous hit. Apple already has experience with red iPhones as part of the (PRODUCT)RED initiative, which supports the fight against HIV and AIDS. However, it is not clear this time whether the new shade will be part of that campaign or a completely separate stylistic variant.
New colour and structural improvements
It is worth noting that some users of the previous version in orange reported issues with the paint's susceptibility to scratches and discolouration. If Apple decides on a deep red, changes to the finish of the casing are possible to avoid similar comments. Apart from the colour, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to receive several significant hardware upgrades. Among these are a slimmer Dynamic Island, a camera with an adjustable aperture, a new generation modem with better satellite connectivity, and a faster processor.
Will red become the new symbol of Pro?
Apple rarely introduces radical stylistic changes in the Pro line, so a potential debut of intense red would be a clear signal of a strategy shift. If the company replicates the success of the Cosmic Orange version, the new colour could become one of the most recognisable variants of this generation.
