Forza Horizon 5 shows that the boundaries between platforms are becoming increasingly blurred. According to new data, the game has sold over 5 million copies on PlayStation 5, which is a figure very close to the PC version. This is particularly interesting considering that the PlayStation version was released only a few years after the launch on Xbox and computers.
Late premiere, but a big success
The debut on PS5 took place only in 2025, nearly four years after the original release. Nevertheless, the game found an enormous number of players, which shows that good titles can sell extremely well even after some time if they hit a new platform. This is also evidence that PlayStation gamers are open to productions previously associated mainly with the Xbox ecosystem. Comparing the results, the PC version sold in a similar range, which only highlights the scale of success on PS5. It is a rare case where a "port" achieves nearly the same results as the original release.
Change of Approach to Exclusivity
The success of Forza aligns with a larger trend in the industry, where Microsoft is increasingly moving away from strict exclusivity. Instead, the company is testing a model in which games are released on more platforms, increasing reach and potential profits. This approach may also impact the future of the series, as it has already been announced that the next installment will also be available on PlayStation. If the trend continues, the differences between platforms may become even less distinct.
Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 is proof that the strategy of releasing games on multiple platforms can be very profitable. High sales show that players are no longer as focused on exclusivity; they simply want to play good titles regardless of the hardware.
