Micro LED technology, regarded as the absolute latest, has just experienced a significant price drop. TCL has just announced the launch of two gigantic 163-inch models, which cost only a third of what they did a year ago. This is the first such large price reduction in history!
163 inch MICRO LED at the price of an extravagant projector
Two models have just debuted in China: TCL Max163M (priced at around $36,500) and Max163M Pro (around $51,000). Sounds like a fortune? Of course, it does, and these prices are indeed astronomical, but....
The price leap compared to models from 2024 is gigantic. As correctly noted by the editorial team at flatpanelshd: TCL demanded $110,000 for a similar 2-year-old model! And Samsung? For its The Wall, it still wants nearly 650,000 PLN!!! This drastic price cut of nearly 70% is a signal that the production of these screens is finally becoming cheaper and more mass-produced.
This is a true MICRO LED not MICRO RGB
We are dealing with a "true" Micro LED, not a marketing gimmick like MICRO RGB. The image consists of nearly 25 million microscopic diodes that illuminate and extinguish themselves, offering perfect blacks but with an unprecedented brightness of 10,000 nits. The Pro version additionally offers a refresh rate of 120Hz at 4K resolution.
The only downside is still the fact that such large screens are made up of smaller modules. The product engineers of these televisions do their best to make the joints invisible, but the " seams" between the panels are still noticeable. However, despite everything, the premiere in China is a historic step towards the commercialisation of MICRO-LED.
