Destiny 3 is reportedly in development – a well-known leaker claims the game is in an extremely early stage. Find out what this means for the future of the series and when we might expect the sequel.

It seems that after years of waiting, Destiny fans have finally received the signal they were hoping for. According to a well-known leaker and dataminer, Destiny 3 has officially entered an extremely early stage of development. This is the first such specific information in many months.

Destiny 2 in crisis – players waiting for a new start

Destiny 2 has been in a difficult place for some time. The Final Shape in June 2024 closed the decade-long saga of Light and Darkness, and many players assumed that Bungie would announce Destiny 3 later that year. It turned out differently. Instead, the Fate Saga launched with the expansion Edge of Fate, which received very mixed reviews.

On top of that, there are record low numbers of active players and growing concerns about the future of the series. For many fans, The Final Shape was the perfect conclusion to Destiny 2 – in the meantime, the studio remains silent on a full-fledged sequel.

Destiny 3 is "in extremely early development". So claims a proven leaker

Leaker Colony Deaks published a short but loud statement today on X: Destiny 3 is in development. And although this information is still unconfirmed, the source has a track record of accurate leaks regarding Destiny and Marathon, many of which have been verified by The Game Post. According to his report:

"Yes, Destiny 3 is in extremely early development. We have had this information for a few weeks, but we wanted to wait because the project is in a very early state."

Deaks claims he decided to publish the leak only after another user wrote something similar. He also promises to reveal more details in the coming months.

Bungie is silent, but the puzzle is starting to fit

At this moment, Bungie is officially focusing on Destiny 2, Fate Saga, and Year of Prophecy. The studio recently postponed the full roadmap and State of the Game until 2026, explaining this necessity to refine long-term plans. If Destiny 3 is indeed in development, this move suddenly makes sense. It's also worth remembering that Bungie was working on a separate game in the Destiny universe, codenamed Payback, developed by Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy. The project was cancelled in June, and both veterans left the studio quietly.

Meanwhile, Sony recently admitted that Destiny 2 "does not meet the expectations arising from the acquisition of Bungie," leading to as much as 204 million dollars in write-downs on the studio's value. For the company, this is a signal that the brand needs a fresh start.

When could Destiny 3 be released?

If the project has just begun, a realistic release date is 2029–2030. There is nothing to count on before then. Is Destiny 3 needed to save the future of the series? Or should Bungie clean up Destiny 2 first?

Let me know in the comments – this discussion will be lively.
