A full-fledged REMAKE of the God of War trilogy is coming. Kratos returns to Greece!

Calendar 2/15/2026

Yesterday's State of Play brought an announcement that fans of Kratos have been waiting for years. Sony officially confirmed that the original Greek saga will receive a new makeover.

This is not "putting lipstick on a corpse." We're getting a Remake

The most important piece of information that the Santa Monica studio has emphasised at every opportunity: this is a Remake, not a Remaster. For players, this is a crucial difference. While a remaster is usually just an enhancement of resolution and old textures, a Remake means building games from the ground up (probably using the same engine that powered Ragnarök). The entire trilogy: the first, second, and third parts of the adventures in Greece – will be created entirely from scratch, with new character models, redesigned locations, while maintaining the brutal spirit of the original.

The project is currently in the early stages of development, but we already know that the role of Kratos will once again be voiced by TC Carson – the original voice of the hero from the Greek era. This decision has sparked euphoria among the veterans of the series, who have missed this particular interpretation of the vengeful Spartan.

Surprise for now: Sons of Sparta

Although we will have to wait for the main remake (the lack of a specific release date suggests rather 2027 or 2028), Sony has not left fans empty-handed. Alongside the announcement of the trilogy, an unexpected spin-off has appeared in the PlayStation Store – God of War: Sons of Sparta. This is a two-dimensional action game with a retro vibe, developed by Mega Cat Studios. It focuses on the younger years of Kratos and his brother Deimos. It’s the perfect “snack” before the main course, which will be the return to the brutal battle for the throne of Olympus in full 4K.
