Philips with its models for 2024 has taken a bit of a different approach. Instead of sticking with the popular Google TV, the company has decided to go with its own system – Titan OS. This change affects most of the new models and... well, not everyone will appreciate it. The system is simpler and runs quickly, but one has to consider that not all the apps available before will be found here. As if that wasn’t enough, Philips still has its own style – a slightly different naming convention, several versions of the same model depending on the store or region… It’s easy to get lost in all of this. That’s why we’ve prepared this ranking – to make your choice easier. We focused on models that, in our opinion, simply make sense. And ones that are worth noting!

The Philips OLED909 is a model that can comfortably stand alongside televisions like the LG G4 and Panasonic Z95A – and not just because of the price. All three use the same OLED MLA technology, which features a micro-lens matrix that significantly increases brightness and makes HDR effects look truly impressive. Additionally, it boasts an excellent black level that every good OLED provides and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, so in terms of picture quality, it is definitely one of the best models of 2024.
However, it must be said outright – this is not a cheap television. The Philips OLED909 is clearly more expensive than the LG G4, which may be a deciding factor for many people. On the other hand, if someone values the Google TV system (with access to practically every possible application), better built-in sound (as it features a quite solid soundbar in the lower part of the casing), and of course Ambilight, which really shines in the evening – then the OLED909 could be a very strong contender. Especially for those looking for an absolutely top-tier television.

Philips OLED809 (or 819 – depending on where you buy it) is a really solid OLED that can deliver excellent picture quality. It has deep blacks, very good colour reproduction after calibration, and great HDR performance thanks to support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The TV is also excellent for gaming – with a 144 Hz panel, a full set of HDMI 2.1 ports, low input lag, and full VRR support, you can easily connect a console and get everything you can out of it. On a daily basis, the OLED809 runs on Google TV, which is fast, intuitive and offers access to virtually every necessary app. If someone has previously used Android on a TV, they'll find it easy to navigate here. And of course, Ambilight, which still does the trick – it adds atmosphere in the evenings and really enhances the enjoyment of movies and series.
On the other hand – it must be said honestly that this is not the most cost-effective OLED on the market. At a similar price point, you can find models like Samsung's S90D with a QD-OLED panel or LG's C series, which offers very similar specifications at a lower price. But if Ambilight is a must-have for someone, and Google TV just "has to be," then the OLED809 will easily meet those requirements. And although the premium over the competition might sting, for many people this particular set of features and experiences will simply be worth it.

The One series from Philips has been enjoying great popularity for several years now, and in 2024 it is still holding up well. This is a mid-range television that simply performs well in many applications – especially if you care about smooth image and wide viewing angles. Philips has used a 120 Hz panel here, which makes the television great for watching sports and dynamic content. We also have an IPS panel, which means that regardless of whether you sit directly in front or a little to the side, the image does not lose contrast or colours. This model also performs well as a gaming television. It has HDMI 2.1 ports, a very decent input lag, and supports basic features for gamers. It will work phenomenally well with consoles like Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. And as is typical for Philips – Ambilight still adds to the experience, especially during evening gaming or viewing. Of course, it is not a television without flaws. The IPS panel and lack of local dimming mean that blacks will not be as deep as in other models, which you may notice particularly in the evening. The Titan OS system also has its limitations – it is fast, but the number of available apps is still smaller than that of Google TV or Android TV. Nonetheless, in our opinion, it is a better choice than the more expensive MiniLED from the The Xtra series. There, despite better technical parameters, the management of backlight zones is average enough that the results can disappoint. The One series is more predictable and safe – and that is why it ranks as the best mid-range Philips in our list.

Philips PML8709 is one of the most surprising models the company has released in 2024. On one hand, we have MiniLED with a VA panel (65") – which delivers solid blacks, noticeably better than popular models like The One or The Xtra. On the other hand… it’s one of the few LCD TVs in Philips' lineup that doesn't run on Titan OS, but on a full-fledged Google TV system. And this is what makes it a bit of a “holy grail” in Philips’ LCD portfolio – we have more apps and a more familiar interface. But that’s not the end of the surprises. The biggest shock is the absence of Ambilight. Yes, you read that right – Philips has released a TV without its most characteristic feature. It’s hard to say why – maybe it was about cost-cutting, or perhaps positioning in a different target group. In any case, if someone was counting on colourful lights on the wall, unfortunately, they won’t find them in this model.
On the other hand, the PML8709 often goes on really attractive promotions. The 55-inch model can cost as much as a classic LCD on Titan, and then it’s hard to walk past it indifferently. So, if you don’t care about Ambilight, but you’re looking for an affordable MiniLED with good blacks and the Google TV system – then the PML8709 could be a really sensible choice.
Which Philips TV to choose?
As you can see, Philips has a lot to offer in 2024. From top-end OLEDs with MLA panels and Ambilight, to mid-range models, and even budget-friendly options without backlights but with good blacks and Google TV. Of course – none of these TVs is perfect (what actually is?), but we tried to select models that simply make sense. Whether for gaming, movies, or everyday watching in the living room.
