Samsung plans to significantly increase purchases of LCD panels from Chinese manufacturer BOE. According to South Korean media reports, the companies have agreed on deliveries totalling as many as 9 million panels in 2028. That's more than four times the number in 2025 and another sign of change in the TV market.
Samsung and BOE resume cooperation
As PRAD reports, citing Korea's ZDNet, Samsung Electronics is set to order 6 to 7 million LCD panels from BOE in 2027 and 8 to 9 million in 2028. For comparison, according to Omdia, the Chinese company supplied Samsung with about 2.2 million panels in 2025, and this year's orders are expected to reach 4.4 million.
Cooperation between the two manufacturers had previously been limited because of a patent dispute that lasted more than three years between BOE and Samsung Display. The conflict was resolved with a settlement in November 2025, paving the way for a renewed increase in deliveries.
Samsung wants to reduce its reliance on TCL
Currently one of Samsung's biggest suppliers of LCD panels is CSOT, owned by TCL. Increasing orders from BOE would allow the Korean manufacturer to reduce its dependence on a single supplier and strengthen its position when negotiating prices.
This is particularly important as Chinese LCD panel makers have started raising their prices. Greater competition among suppliers could help Samsung control TV production costs, although it doesn't automatically mean lower retail prices.
So far, the planned orders for 2027-2028 have not been officially confirmed by either company.
