Microsoft may be preparing a new generation of its professional Xbox Elite controller. Information and photos of the device referred to as the Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 have leaked online.

Microsoft focuses on a familiar look and improved features

A new controller has appeared in the Brazilian certification database Anatel. The documents indicate that Microsoft is not planning a major revolution in the design of the device. The controller will still offer interchangeable components, adjustable triggers, rear paddles, and extensive customization options known from previous Elite models. The company is clearly focusing more on refining the design rather than a complete redesign of the device. Leaks also mention support for Bluetooth and WiFi 6, which could enhance the controller's performance when gaming in the cloud and across various devices.

The biggest mystery is the new buttons

The most interesting element of the leak is two new controllers located next to the 3.5 mm headphone jack. In the photos, they resemble small knobs or sliders, but their function remains a mystery. According to speculation, they may be used for more precise control in flight simulators or other games that require smooth adjustment of parameters. Such solutions would fit the more advanced nature of the Elite series. Microsoft is also reportedly preparing a special button for quick switching between local play and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The leak, however, also suggests one potentially controversial change. The new Elite Controller is expected to retain the interchangeable battery, but its capacity may decrease from 2050 mAh to around 1528 mAh. It is not yet known whether Microsoft will compensate for this with better energy efficiency of the new components. For now, the company has not commented on the leaks regarding the controller.
