The Spider-Man film universe without Spider-Man has not had an easy path. Following poorly received productions like Morbius and Kraven, Sony decided to end its live-action experiment. The Venom trilogy starring Tom Hardy received mixed reviews but surprisingly did well at the box office. Now the studio wants to try again, but in a completely different form. Instead of Venom 4, a full-length animation will be created, which aims to open a new chapter for the character.
No sequel, but a fresh start
The new project will not be a direct continuation of the live-action trilogy. Sony plans to create a completely separate story in animated form. Tom Hardy is set to be involved as a producer, and his acting role has not yet been confirmed. However, it is possible that he will again voice Eddie Brock or the symbiote itself. The directing will be handled by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the creators of the film Final Destination: Bloodlines. There are many indications that the production could receive an R rating, which would give the creators greater freedom to showcase the more brutal side of Venom.
Sony wants to repeat the success of animation
The decision to shift to animation is not accidental. Productions like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have proven that this format can bring both artistic and financial success. Sony has clearly noticed that it is the animated films from the Spider-Man universe that have gained the greatest appreciation from viewers and critics. The script for the new Venom is not ready yet, but the direction seems clear. The studio wants to avoid the mistakes of previous installments and offer a fresher, more polished approach to the character.
Venom is one of the most recognisable characters in the Marvel universe, and many fans believe that his full potential has yet to be realised on the big screen. The animated format offers the chance for greater visual creativity and a stronger atmosphere. If Sony learns from the past, the new production could be groundbreaking. This won’t be Venom 4, but rather a completely new approach to the symbiote that might finally satisfy fans.
