The new season of Overwatch 2 is going up a notch and adding a map hero along with loads of new features.

Calendar 4/14/2026

Blizzard Entertainment isn't slowing down and is launching another big chapter for Overwatch 2. Season 2: Summit is one of the most packed updates in a long time - a new hero, revamped maps, fresh modes, and plenty of changes to the game systems. This isn't just an ordinary season of 'cosmetics', but a concrete expansion of both gameplay and storyline. If anyone has been waiting for a bigger refresh, now is the time to return to the game.

New hero and more story than usual

The biggest star of the season is, of course, Sierra, a new DPS character who brings not only fresh mechanics to the game but also a significant piece of Overwatch's world history. As a former head of security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa and someone connected to the Soldier Enhancement program, her storyline directly intersects with characters like Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. This means that Blizzard is focusing more than ever on lore development, rather than just gameplay. Sierra wields a rifle and is supported by a drone named Dorothy, suggesting a more tactical combat style. Her debut is accompanied by a special event Operation: Grand Mesa, which allows players to unlock story elements by completing challenges. This is an interesting shift; instead of just watching the story, players actively discover it during gameplay.

Reworks of Maps and a Heap of Changes in the Systems

In addition to a new hero, Blizzard is also rolling out a solid package of changes within the game itself. The map Antarctic Peninsula has been revamped to improve the flow of battles and add more flanking options. Additionally, Post Match Accolades are making a return, which is a system that rewards players for their contributions in matches, something that aims to enhance the sense of satisfaction and teamwork. There are also some cosmetic hits; Mythic skins for Soldier: 76 and Genji introduce new levels of personalisation and visual effects. Furthermore, there are changes to hero perks (e.g., faster sprint for Soldier or additional healing for Mercy), a new map in the Stadium mode, and seasonal events like the Sakura Collection and the return of the collaboration with the team LE SSERAFIM.

The Summit season shows that Overwatch 2 is still evolving and focusing not only on new characters but also on real changes in gameplay and storyline. This is one of the strongest updates in a long time.
