Apple is preparing to launch its first MacBook Pro with an OLED display. According to South Korean media, the panels for the new laptop will be produced by Samsung Display, which has decided to change one of its material suppliers. The information was disclosed by SFC in documents related to its planned IPO.

Samsung changes OLED material composition

PRAD, citing ZDNet Korea, reports that Samsung Display will use a blue host supplied by SFC in its new T3 material set. However, the supplier of the blue dopant will change; it previously also came from that company. The host is the base material of the OLED layer, while the dopant is responsible for light emission. Both components are essential for the proper operation of the display.

Interestingly, for the OLED iPad Pro Samsung used both materials supplied by SFC. The upcoming MacBook Pro is set to receive a Tandem OLED panel with two emissive layers, in which the blue dopant will come from a different manufacturer.

When will the MacBook Pro get OLED?

According to reports from Korean media, Samsung Display will produce new panels on its A6 line of the 8.6 generation, designed for laptop screens and other IT devices. The launch of the first MacBook Pro with an OLED display is expected in October 2026. However, Apple has not officially confirmed this information.

The change of supplier highlights growing competition in the OLED materials market, but for now it is unclear whether it will affect the specifications or price of the upcoming laptop.
