The premium TV market has been dominated for years by the rivalry between OLED and advanced LCD panels. OLED impresses with deep blacks and contrast, while LCD TV makers are continually developing new solutions to improve picture quality. TCL has decided to take another step, unveiling SQD-Mini LED technology. The new C8L model aims to combine the benefits of quantum dots and Mini LED backlighting, offering high brightness and precise light control. The manufacturer hopes the new solution will allow it to compete more effectively with OLED TVs. This is one of the most advanced TCL TVs brought to market.
SQD-Mini LED is designed to combine the benefits of QLED and Mini LED
The new SQD-Mini LED technology develops the existing solutions used in LCD TVs. TCL has used improved quantum dots and Mini LED backlighting to enhance colour reproduction, contrast and brightness control. The C8L is equipped with the TSR AiPQ processor that uses artificial intelligence to analyse images. The chip recognises displayed scenes and optimises them at the level of individual pixels, improving the quality of the content. The TV reaches a peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits, which is one of its key strengths. The manufacturer also claims full, 100 percent coverage of the BT.2020 colour space. Precise control of the backlight is handled by a system offering as many as 4,032 local dimming zones. This allows bright and dark areas of the image to be controlled independently. The C8L is intended to deliver high image quality whether you're watching movies, gaming or viewing HDR content.
TCL targets the premium segment and wants to compete with OLED
The new TV is available in a range of sizes, from 55 to as much as 98 inches, allowing buyers to choose a suitable model for different rooms. The manufacturer emphasises that the technology used is meant to be an alternative to OLED panels, which for years have been regarded as the benchmark in the premium TV segment. TCL hopes that the combination of high brightness, advanced backlighting and artificial intelligence will win over users looking for modern displays. The introduction of SQD-Mini LED also signals the direction of LCD TV development, as successive improvements are making them increasingly competitive with OLED. The new solution could increase competition in the high-end TV segment. It also means greater pressure on manufacturers who have been developing OLED panels for years, such as LG and Samsung. However, the final judgement on the new technology will depend on actual picture quality and comparisons with competing models. Already it's clear that TCL intends to make a strong mark in the top tier of the TV market.
TCL C8L with SQD‑Mini LED technology is another attempt to show that modern LCD TVs can effectively compete with OLED. High brightness, thousands of local dimming zones, a wide colour gamut and support for artificial intelligence mean the new model aims at the most demanding users.
