Portable projectors are becoming increasingly advanced year on year. They now offer not only good picture quality but also features that until recently were reserved for smart TVs. TCL has gone a step further and equipped its Playcube projector with support for Google's Gemini artificial intelligence. This gives the device new capabilities for entertainment, learning and everyday multimedia use. The update is intended to make using the projector more intuitive and convenient. It's another example of the growing role of AI in consumer electronics.
Gemini introduces new features and makes using the projector easier
The biggest addition is integration with the Gemini model, which expands Playcube’s capabilities with four new operating modes. The "Ask" feature lets the user talk to the projector and receive recommendations for movies and TV series tailored to the user's preferences. The AI can also remind the user of key events from previous seasons of shows, making it easier to return to watching after a long break. The "Brief" mode prepares a personalised summary of the most important information, including news, sports highlights and YouTube Shorts. The user can quickly catch up with top content without having to open multiple apps. Another feature is "Learn", which uses Gemini to create clear diagrams, infographics and visualisations displayed on a large surface. The final mode, "Create", uses generative artificial intelligence and the Veo model to generate images and video content based on the user's description. This lets the projector create atmospheric backdrops, such as a burning fireplace or a starry sky. The update with the new features is already being rolled out to Playcube owners.
Compact projector offers solid specs and even greater capabilities
Playcube stands out above all for its small size and mobility. The projector weighs less than 1.3 kilograms and includes a battery that allows up to three hours of operation without mains power. The unit uses a 0.33-inch DMD chip and displays images in native Full HD 1080p. A brightness of 750 lumens and TCL's proprietary Immersive Color technology are intended to deliver good image quality for its class. A distinctive design feature is the 360-degree rotating housing, which lets you aim the picture at a wall, ceiling or sloped surface without using extra mounts. The manufacturer also announced that Gemini features will not be limited to the Playcube. Similar solutions are expected to appear in other TCL devices in future. However, the company has not yet disclosed which models will receive the update or exactly when it will roll out. The integration of artificial intelligence shows that portable projectors are becoming increasingly versatile devices for entertainment and everyday use.
