Valve is introducing Steam Link on Apple Vision Pro and this is one of the most important features for this device in a while. Users can now stream games from their Steam library from a PC or Mac directly to the headset, using their local network. This includes 4K support and the ability to set up a massive, panoramic screen, making the Vision Pro start to resemble a private, high-end gaming monitor. It's a simpler and more official solution than previous methods based on third-party applications.
4K Streaming and a Huge Virtual Screen Make the Biggest Difference in Daily Gaming
The biggest advantage is how the gameplay itself works cable-free, fast connection, and a large, customisable screen in a mixed space. You can play virtually anywhere you have a good local network, and the Vision Pro allows you to set up the screen exactly the way you want. This is a huge advantage over a traditional setup, as you are not limited by a physical monitor or TV. Moreover, the official Valve app means better stability and fewer technical issues than with previous solutions.
Lack of VR support is the biggest downside, but the development direction is very clear
However, it should be made clear that this is not full-fledged VR gaming, just classic 2D games. There is no support for SteamVR, so you won't be able to run native VR games here. Despite this, it's still an important step because it shows that Apple is beginning to open up its ecosystem, and Valve sees potential in this hardware. If this direction continues, we may see fuller integration with Steam, and even VR support in the future.
