Salesforce is significantly reworking Slack and aims to transform it into something more than just a messaging app. The new version of Slack is focusing on AI as the main work tool, with Slackbot designed to function as a digital collaborator rather than just a chatbot. The company is adding over 30 new features intended to automate daily tasks and simplify access to data without switching between applications. This is another step towards a world where AI becomes an integral part of office work. Salesforce clearly shows that it wants Slack to be the hub of the entire ecosystem.
AI as a collaborator, not a tool
Salesforce is developing the Slackbot to function as a personal AI agent that understands the context of the user's work. The system draws on data from messages, files, channels, as well as from CRM tools and external integrations. This allows it not only to answer questions but also to actively assist in work, for example, summarising conversations, creating content, or suggesting actions. Particularly interesting is the use of AI during video conferences, where the Slackbot can in real-time extract information and automatically display customer data.
One interface for everything
The new approach suggests that Slack will become the central hub for managing AI and applications, eliminating the need to use multiple tools simultaneously. Salesforce speaks plainly about the end of disparate solutions and the transition to a single environment where everything operates based on conversations. Additionally, a "skills" system is emerging, which allows sharing AI capabilities with other employees without requiring technical knowledge. Initially, the new features will be available to Business+ and Enterprise+ users, but they will gradually become accessible in lower tiers as well.
