Not this kind of information was expected by the owners of the new Nintendo console. Borderlands 4, which was supposed to be one of the bigger launch hits for the Switch 2, is facing a delay just before the release.
ChooseTV needs more time
Gearbox Software has released an official statement admitting that the game requires additional work:
“Greetings, Vault Hunters – we need to share the information that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed. It wasn’t an easy decision, but we are committed to providing our fans with the best possible experience, and the game requires more time for development and refinement. We also hope to better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and know is very important.”
It's hard to say there’s great surprise – the game has already faced performance issues on other platforms, and looter-shooters of this kind do not forgive technical shortcomings.
Pre-orders cancelled, refunds from Nintendo
The studio has not provided a new release date, and Nintendo is initiating its standard refund procedure. All digital pre-orders will be cancelled – if players do not initiate the process themselves, the system will do so automatically on Friday, 26 September.
When will we play?
At this moment, it is unknown when Borderlands 4 will land on Switch 2. Gearbox suggests that the delay is also intended to allow for the implementation of cross-save, which could be crucial for fans of the series.
Let’s remember that the game was already released on September 12, 2025, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 – although there, the reviews were mixed, mainly due to technical shortcomings.
