One of the more unusual racing games in recent months is making its way to Xbox. Screamer combines classic racing with elements of combat and anime, creating something that stands out from typical racers. The release is just around the corner, and the creators clearly show that they do not want to make yet another standard car game.
Racing with a storyline like in anime
Screamer focuses not only on driving but also on storytelling. The game tells the story of an illegal street racing tournament where various teams compete. Each team has its own motives, and the plot is developed through cinematic cutscenes and dialogues inspired by JRPGs. This makes the game resemble a more interactive story than a classic racing game. The creators placed emphasis on a strong atmosphere and characters that matter not only in the cutscenes but also during gameplay.
The biggest difference compared to other games is the gameplay system. Screamer mixes arcade racing with mechanics known from fighting games. While driving, players can use special abilities that have offensive or defensive effects. Additionally, there is an energy system that needs to be managed skillfully. The controls have also been modified separating steering and drifting, which provides greater control over the vehicle and a more dynamic driving experience. This means that not only speed counts, but also timing and strategy.
Anime style and cyberpunk atmosphere
The game also stands out visually. The world of Screamera is a mix of anime and cyberpunk, featuring neon cities, deserts, and unusual locations. Instead of realistic graphics, the focus is on colors, contrast, and dynamic effects that emphasise the arcade feel. As a result, each track looks different and has its own unique atmosphere.
Screamer is an interesting alternative to classic racing games. The combination of story, combat, and anime style means that the game can attract both racing fans and those looking for something fresh. If this mix works, it could be one of the more original releases of the year.
