Samsung shows how the Galaxy Z TriFold is made. 200 thousand folds, water tests, and a tomograph — this is what the production of the first triple-folding smartphone looks like!

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold – behind the scenes of producing the first triple-folding smartphone. 200,000 folds, IP48 water tests and CT scanning reveal how the 2026 model is made.

Samsung rarely opens the doors to its production lines, but the Galaxy Z TriFold is such a unique device that it was worth making an exception. The company showed what the process of assembling and testing the first triple-folding smartphone looks like, which will hit the shelves in the first quarter of 2026. And it must be said — what the TriFold goes through before it ends up in the box is impressive.

From two hinges to one screen. The assembly process

Production starts with the automated assembly of two Armor FlexHinge hinges, which are designed to ensure stability during triple folding of the structure. This is followed by:

  • bonding the display,

  • pressing the main screen, which compresses the entire structure to make it thinner and more durable,

  • pressing the back cover, which seals everything into its final form.

Everything looks like part of the factory for assembling the laptops of the future — except that the final product is a smartphone.

Tests to Justify a Price Over $3,000

Once the device is assembled, the proper marathon of tests begins. Samsung lists them in a single breath, but their list shows just how complex this model is. On the TriFold, the following are conducted:

  • 3D surface scanning — checks the quality of components and micro deviations,

  • opening angle test,

  • fast computed tomography (CT) analysing the interior of the device,

  • camera sharpness test,

  • test of 200,000 folds,

  • simulations of real usage conditions, including the effects of temperature, battery operation, and changing pressure forces on the screen,

  • water resistance test.

The TriFold receives IP48, meaning resistance to immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes. However, Samsung emphasises that this is not a device for the beach or pool — it’s more of an emergency safety feature.

Smartphone of the future that must prove its durability

All these processes are not surprising when you consider the expected price of around 3000 dollars. This device aspires to be the most advanced mobile format on the market, so the tests must be equally advanced. It must be admitted — looking at how much effort Samsung is putting into the TriFold, it's hard not to get the impression that the company wants to create something more than just another foldable smartphone. It's a showcase of technological strength and an introduction to a completely new category of devices.

Is this your next phone?

The authors of the material ask: will this be your next smartphone? Looking at what goes on behind the scenes of production… many people might answer: “probably yes”. TriFold is a vision of the mobile future encapsulated in one device — now additionally enhanced by an exceptionally rigorous testing process.
