Samsung has officially confirmed the withdrawal of TV sales and most RTV and household appliances from China. This is a huge change for the market as the company is leaving the largest TV market in the world and making way for local manufacturers such as TCL, Hisense, and Skyworth.
Samsung stops selling televisions and AV equipment in China
The decision by Samsung includes not only televisions but also monitors, projectors, audio equipment, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and other home appliances. The company explains the move as a response to a “dynamically changing market environment” and the difficulties in continuing to compete with Chinese brands. A few years ago, Samsung was one of the leading television manufacturers in China and offered a full range of models from OLEDs and Neo QLEDs to lifestyle televisions like The Frame. However, the situation began to change significantly with the aggressive growth of local manufacturers, who offer increasingly better specifications at much lower prices.
Chinese brands have practically taken over their own market
According to AVC data, Samsung's share of the Chinese TV market has dropped to just around 3.6 percent. Meanwhile, local manufacturers now control over 94 percent of the entire market. TCL and Hisense are growing particularly strong, increasingly competing globally and regularly introducing new Mini LED and RGB LED technologies. Samsung's withdrawal could further strengthen the position of the Chinese giants. TCL had previously temporarily overtaken Samsung in terms of the number of TVs sold worldwide, and now may come even closer to the position of global leader. This is also a clear warning signal for other foreign brands trying to maintain their foothold in the very challenging Chinese electronics market.
Samsung officially ends the sale of televisions and most RTV and white goods in China. The company is losing the battle against local manufacturers, who have practically dominated the world's largest television market.
