According to insider-gaming, Sony has recorded another significant sales result related to the PlayStation 5 console. The latest financial report indicates that in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2025, the company sold approximately 8 million units of the PS5, which allowed it to surpass the barrier of 90 million consoles sold globally. At the same time, Sony points out that year-on-year sales are lower by about 1.5 million consoles, as the result in the corresponding quarter of the previous year was higher. Despite a slight slowdown, the PS5 remains one of the biggest hardware successes in the history of the PlayStation brand.
Sony boasts new data
Besides impressive console sales, Sony has also revealed new data regarding the entire PlayStation ecosystem. Total game sales on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 reached 97.2 million units, with this figure also including titles added to the consoles as well as productions for PlayStation VR. At the same time, the user base for PlayStation Network is growing – at the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, there were 132 million active accounts using the service, which indicates an increase compared to the same period last year.
Data shows that despite the slower pace of hardware sales, the activity of players and software sales remain a strong point for the PlayStation brand.
