Sony surprises gamers once again, this time with a price increase even for refurbished consoles. The PlayStation 5 Slim in refurbished version has gone up by 100 dollars, while simultaneously, new copies at the lowest price have practically disappeared from the market. This means one thing: the era of the PS5 at 399 dollars is now coming to an end.
More expensive even for used equipment
Sony has raised the prices of refurbished PS5 Slim models, causing the Digital Edition to now cost around 499 dollars, and the disc version even more. Interestingly, the company has not released any official statement regarding this, and the changes were only noticed by users. Not long ago, refurbished equipment was a way to enter the world of PlayStation at a lower cost, but now the difference between the new and used model has significantly decreased. This may suggest that Sony is deliberately limiting the appeal of cheaper options.
End of PS5 for 399 dollars
Alongside the price increases, the popular PS5 bundle with Fortnite, which allowed the purchase of a new console for 399 dollars, has disappeared. Currently, the cheapest new models start from around 599 dollars, which significantly raises the entry threshold for new players. Even if the differences between the Slim version and the older model are not large, prices are clearly rising across the entire range. This is yet another signal that rising component costs, particularly for memory, are beginning to heavily impact the console market.
Sony is raising prices not only for new consoles but also for refurbished ones, which clearly shows the direction of changes in the market. The cheap PS5 is becoming a thing of the past, and gamers must prepare for higher expenses.
