Rising component prices mean building a new gaming PC is becoming an increasingly expensive proposition. Not every gamer wants to spend thousands of zlotys just to run the latest games at high quality. NVIDIA offers a solution in the form of the GeForce NOW service, which moves the demanding processing to the cloud. That means even a less powerful laptop, Chromebook or smartphone can be used to play demanding titles. The service also lets you use your existing game library without needing to buy the games again.
Cloud gaming instead of replacing your PC
GeForce NOW lets you run demanding games on hardware that wouldn’t normally be able to handle them. All the computing power is on NVIDIA’s servers, and a ready video stream of the game is sent to the user. That means you don’t need a powerful CPU or a high-end graphics card to enjoy high graphics settings. The service works on PCs, Chromebooks, smartphones, tablets and TVs. There’s also an app designed for the Steam Deck. NVIDIA points out that GeForce NOW can be an attractive option for people using older devices. Supported platforms include Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox PC Game Pass, Battle.net and Ubisoft Connect. So the user doesn’t have to buy a game again if they already own it on one of those services. Another advantage is not having to download massive updates to your own drive. Games run in the cloud, so even an update of several dozen gigabytes doesn’t have to stop you from jumping into a session. GeForce NOW can thus extend the life of older hardware, because demanding computations don’t tax its components the way traditional gaming does.
Various quality levels and even 5K at 120 FPS
GeForce NOW offers several access tiers, letting users tailor the service to their needs. The free tier allows gaming at 1080p at up to 60 frames per second, although individual sessions are time-limited. The higher Performance plan provides gameplay up to 1440p at 60 FPS and supports RTX technologies. The most advanced Ultimate plan uses servers equipped with GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs. In this case users can get up to 8 hours for a single session. For supported games the service also allows streaming at 5K at 120 FPS. Technologies such as DLSS 4 and full ray tracing are supported. NVIDIA says this level of performance could surpass the experience offered by the PlayStation 5 Pro. The GeForce NOW library already includes over 5,000 games and continues to grow. Those unsure of the service quality can use the free tier or choose a one-day pass before purchasing a full subscription. This means cloud gaming becomes an alternative to costly PC upgrades, especially for casual players or people who use lower-end hardware day to day.
NVIDIA GeForce NOW aims to show that you don't always need an expensive computer to play demanding titles. By using cloud servers you can enjoy high-quality graphics even on older devices. Another big plus is the ability to link the service to game libraries you already own. With a suitable internet connection, this can be a convenient alternative to buying a new PC.
