Fans of Little Nightmares III can now dive into the next chapter of the dark world of The Nowhere. The creators have released the first episode of the add-on Secrets of the Spiral, which takes players to a new location known as Backstage. It is there that we meet the Puppeteer, a mysterious character responsible for creating the puppets that perform in Carnevale. The new chapter expands on the story of Low and Alone, while also introducing new foes and unsettling secrets hidden deep behind the scenes. True to Little Nightmares, there will be no shortage of grotesque atmosphere and a constant sense of danger.
Puppeteer is one of the most dangerous inhabitants of the Little Nightmares world
Puppeteer resides in the hidden backstage of Carnevale, where in her workshop she creates puppets that serve both for entertainment and maintaining order throughout the complex. At first glance, she resembles the perfect lady, but behind the elegant appearance lies a mechanical nature and a ruthless approach to everything she does. Every movement seems meticulously planned, and every detail perfected. Her obsession is creating new dolls, which is why she constantly seeks out more "materials" that she can use in her projects. The workshop is full of needles, scissors, and unfinished constructions resembling living beings. Players visiting Backstage will quickly discover that Puppeteer does not tolerate mistakes and can be extremely dangerous.
One of her most fearsome attacks is a hypnotic gaze that can immobilise her victim in place. Escaping from her requires not only reflexes but also cooperation between the heroes. The creators have also prepared a new mechanic that uses special helmets emitting an intense flash of light. With them, it is possible to temporarily weaken the opponent and gain a few precious seconds to escape. Everything indicates that Puppeteer could become one of the most memorable characters in the series’ history. Her design perfectly fits the distinctive style of Little Nightmares, merging childlike themes with unsettling horror. She is an adversary that evokes fear even before she appears on screen. For many players, she may prove to be just as iconic as Lady or Thin Man from previous installments.
New story takes players even deeper into the mysteries of Spiral
The plot of the expansion begins with the abduction of Alone, who Low loses sight of and wakes up without his companion. During his search, he meets a new character named Dime, who helps him navigate the dangerous corners of Backstage. Together they try to find Alone before she becomes another puppet in the Puppeteer's collection. Along the way, players will also encounter mysterious beings known as Remains. These are dark shadows of children lurking in the darkness and hunting other visitors to Spiral. Their origin remains a mystery, but much suggests they may be connected to events occurring behind the scenes of the theatre. The expansion expands the lore of the universe and provides new information about the inhabitants of this nightmarish world. The creators also hint at a possible connection between the Puppeteer and a character mentioned earlier in the Sounds of Nightmares podcast. For fans following the story of the series, this could mean more important answers about the mysteries of The Nowhere. Backstage offers completely new locations, puzzles, and stealth sequences that further emphasise the atmosphere of uncertainty.
