LG and Samsung may join forces on OLED and change the 4K 240Hz monitor market.

LG Electronics may start using panels from Samsung Display, which just a few years ago would have been unimaginable. According to leaks, this concerns 27-inch QD-OLED 4K 240Hz panels that are set to be featured in LG monitors by the end of the year. This is an interesting move, as until now LG has mainly focused on its own WOLED technologies, and now it seems they want to expand their offering and tap into solutions from competitors.

LG may combine QD OLED and WOLED to better tailor monitors to different applications and market segments

In practice, it's not about abandoning its own panels, but rather a strategy of "mixing technologies". LG Display is developing its WOLED, but Samsung's QD-OLED has its advantages, particularly in brightness, colours, and gaming applications. If LG starts using both technologies, it can better align products with different users – for instance, some models for gaming, others for work or multimedia. Already, companies like ASUS and Dell are using QD-OLED panels, so LG may simply not want to fall behind.

Collaboration between LG and Samsung shows how significant pressure from China is changing the display market

Not long ago, LG and Samsung were direct rivals, but the situation is changing. Increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers is prompting the Korean companies to collaborate rather than just compete. Samsung Electronics has already taken advantage of LG panels in its TVs, and now a move in the opposite direction is possible. This demonstrates that OLED is becoming a key technology for the future, and companies want to strengthen their position in the market together.

If LG actually starts using QD-OLED from Samsung, it could be a significant change for the monitor market. A greater choice of technology means better products and increased competition, particularly in the premium segment.
