Apple has focused on safe colours in its Pro models for years. Silver, black, gold, and muted tones have dominated the offerings. This changed with the iPhone 18 Pro in Cosmic Orange, which turned out to be a sales success. Now the company may take it a step further. According to industry reports, a deep, saturated shade of red is being tested, which is expected to become the hallmark of this year's generation.
Bolder colour strategy
The new red is expected to be one of several variants considered by Apple. The company has been experimenting with different colour palettes long before a launch, so the final decision may not be made until closer to the debut. Sources suggest that the colour could be added alongside existing options, rather than replacing the previous hit. Apple already has experience with red iPhones as part of the (PRODUCT)RED initiative, which supports the fight against HIV and AIDS. However, it is not clear this time whether the new shade will be part of that campaign or a completely separate stylistic variant.
New colour and structural improvements
It’s worth adding that some users of the previous orange version reported issues with the paint's susceptibility to scratches and discolouration. If Apple decides on a deep red, changes to the case finish are possible to avoid similar complaints. In addition to the colour, the iPhone 18 Pro is set to receive several significant hardware upgrades. Among them, a slimmer Dynamic Island, a camera with adjustable aperture, a new generation modem with better satellite connectivity, and a faster processor are mentioned.
Will red become the new symbol of Pro?
Apple rarely introduces radical stylistic changes to the Pro line, so the potential debut of an intense red would be a clear signal of a strategy shift. If the company replicates the success of the Cosmic Orange version, the new colour could become one of the most recognisable variants of this generation.
