Guerrilla Games has revealed details of the next closed test for Horizon Hunters Gathering. The new beta will take place from 22 to 25 May 2026 and will bring a lot of new features, from new heroes to an additional story episode, as well as more challenging missions and a new region to explore. The studio emphasises that the project is still in the early stages of development, but it already wants to actively collect player feedback and develop the gameplay foundations together with the community.
Two new hunters and expanded gameplay
The biggest novelty of the test will be the new heroes. Joining the already known characters are Ensa, the charismatic Oseram smuggler, and Shadow, the mysterious Carja agent working with the dangerous machine type Ardiloso. Guerrilla announces that both characters will offer completely new combat styles and approaches to team cooperation. The test will also introduce a playable story episode, which aims to expand the world lore and introduce new enemies and mechanics. In addition, the gameplay modes Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent are returning, but this time in a much tougher version. Players will face more aggressive hordes of machines and new difficulty levels, including the "Merciless" mode, which is said to be a true challenge even for experienced hunters.
New region and greater emphasis on solo and co-op
A new location called Recompensa dos Disjuntores will offer jungles, desert ruins, and new types of threats. At the same time, the studio aims to improve the balance between solo play and cooperation. NPC Hunters will automatically fill the team in the absence of other players during tests. This solution is intended to assist those who prefer solo gameplay or quicker matchmaking. Guerrilla is also developing a training and onboarding system for new players. Added training modules are designed to ease the learning of mechanics and provide a better understanding of combat and cooperation systems. Everything indicates that the studio wants to create a more accessible yet deep online spin-off in the Horizon universe.
Horizon Hunters Gathering is clearly growing with each subsequent test. New heroes, a greater focus on cooperation, and expanded missions show that Guerrilla Games wants to create an ambitious online production set in the world of Horizon.
