Chinese manufacturer HKC unveiled at the Canton Fair a 100-inch TV using RGB Mini LED technology. The device features 6K resolution, more than 3,000 local dimming zones and a claimed full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space. It's another example of the growing capabilities of large LCD screens.
6K and over 3,000 local dimming zones
The new HKC TV offers a resolution of 5760 × 3240 pixels, about 18.7 million pixels. That's 2.25 times the number of pixels of standard 4K, which on a 100-inch screen can translate into higher image detail.
The manufacturer uses RGB Mini LED backlighting with 3024 independently controlled zones. Unlike conventional Mini LED, which uses white or blue LEDs, RGB technology uses separate red, green and blue light sources.
HKC also claims a peak brightness of 1500 nits, full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space and an AG anti-reflective coating that reduces reflections.
When will the TV go on sale?
At the show, HKC also revealed an even larger 116-inch RGB Mini LED TV with 30,600 local dimming zones and a casing just 28 mm thick.
For now the manufacturer has not disclosed the price, refresh rate or the release date for the 100-inch model. It is also unclear whether the device will be released in Europe.
